Greek Nationals 2006

6th title for Fabian and 5th for Zeta
Fabian Kalaitzis crowned once again Greek champion at a full central court in Athens squash club (OAA). Petros Tzamaloukas fough hard until the end but it was Fabian that kept his steady game and won the last point.
The match started nervously by both sides and Fabian took a lead with 5-2. But then Petros looked to find his game as he almost leveled 5-4. Two nicks from Fabian made it 7-4 and after some great rallies he took also the first game 9-5. In the second game both players were going together point by point and Fabian had a little accident falling on his elbow making it a bit sore. No medical needed and Petros got in front 7-6. Big rallies followed and finaly Fabian grapped it 9-7 and now leading by 2/0 games.
The third game started with perfect nick shots from Petros who lead once again 5-2 and Fabian played then realy well with perfect straights and putting pressure to his opponent with his backhand straight drops. 8-7 and matchball for Fabian when Petros went the wrong way and with a huge jump parallel the floor although getting the ball couldn’t rescue it. It was all over and 3/0 for Fabian.
Earlier it was Zeta Tzamalouka ,Petros's sister, who stormed through Eliza Kargioti 9-4 10-8 9-5. Zeta proved that he is the best female in Greek squash history by getting her fifth title against a strong opponent. The match sarted with Zeta dominating the rallies and in control. Then in the second game Eliza improved and got her shots but Zeta's experience and crosses gave her a 2/0 games lead. Once again in the third Zeta got the big points and praivaled by 3/0. Eliza was improved a lot and Zeta too. This was a high level squash from both players.
In the veterans (+50) Markos Pasaliadis after having a 2/0 games lead finally won it by 3/2 games against Manolis Kokkinaras.
At the awards ceremony we had speeches from the winners and finalists. Zeta Tzamalouka thanked her husband and son for their support and also Patrick Le Feur ,the captain of Vail De Reil team in France for believing in her and having her in this team. Petros and Fabian together thanked the people for coming (actually it was the first time that the gallery was so full), the Federation ,the Athens club and wished this was the beginning of a new era in Greek squash with more children playing and more juniors squash camps helding.
See you next year !!!

Balkan Cup, Belgrade

I was too close in winning my first PSA tournament of the season but lost in the final of the Balkan Cup to Ivan Djorjevic after I was leading 2-0 games he came back to 2-2 and then in the last game I was leading 6/2 and 9/7. At 9/9 he made an unbeliavable shot and at matchball I tinned for the match. I was sad but these things happen and already I am looking forward to my next tournaments, the Vari Open and the Nationals.

Belgrade was really nice city and I had great time with the other two Greeks competing,Nikos Moustroufis (3rd place) and Nikos Symeonidis (9th place). Look forward to come back soon...

After a long flight we landed in a 'white' city as it was already snowing! It was really cold for us and we soon were at our hotel. Tournament was great but I lost in the semis from Fabian and then lost again unfortunately for the third place to Alex Pauvulans. That was a game to win which I didn't. But we really had a good time with the boys, we ve been to some nice restaurants, bars and on and look forward to come back soon...
Next tournament is on Belgrade again,Serbia on 23rd of November. We ll keep in touch

Belgrade Trophy

Just got back from Belgrade where I played some exhibition matches on a glass court in the main square which was full of 500 people seated without counting the walking ones. Actually it was an exhibition tournament where I finished at the third place. Lost to Ivan Djorjevic in the semis and won Fucur from Slovenia for the third place play-off.
As the semi final was sceduled for 16.00 I could hardly see the ball cause the sun was all around ! Also Ivan played some good squash and all the credits to him. At my last match in the evening conditions were normal and I won . The night finished with a great party in Squashland with DJ Marko Nastic, Serbia's best DJ, exclusively for us !
I would like to thank personaly Ivan for inviting me in such a great event and Cedomir, the President of Serbian federation. They put some fantastic effort which surely will be payed back. This was big step for promoting squash in Serbia and I am happy I was part of it.
