Greek Nationals 2006

6th title for Fabian and 5th for Zeta
Fabian Kalaitzis crowned once again Greek champion at a full central court in Athens squash club (OAA). Petros Tzamaloukas fough hard until the end but it was Fabian that kept his steady game and won the last point.
The match started nervously by both sides and Fabian took a lead with 5-2. But then Petros looked to find his game as he almost leveled 5-4. Two nicks from Fabian made it 7-4 and after some great rallies he took also the first game 9-5. In the second game both players were going together point by point and Fabian had a little accident falling on his elbow making it a bit sore. No medical needed and Petros got in front 7-6. Big rallies followed and finaly Fabian grapped it 9-7 and now leading by 2/0 games.
The third game started with perfect nick shots from Petros who lead once again 5-2 and Fabian played then realy well with perfect straights and putting pressure to his opponent with his backhand straight drops. 8-7 and matchball for Fabian when Petros went the wrong way and with a huge jump parallel the floor although getting the ball couldn’t rescue it. It was all over and 3/0 for Fabian.
Earlier it was Zeta Tzamalouka ,Petros's sister, who stormed through Eliza Kargioti 9-4 10-8 9-5. Zeta proved that he is the best female in Greek squash history by getting her fifth title against a strong opponent. The match sarted with Zeta dominating the rallies and in control. Then in the second game Eliza improved and got her shots but Zeta's experience and crosses gave her a 2/0 games lead. Once again in the third Zeta got the big points and praivaled by 3/0. Eliza was improved a lot and Zeta too. This was a high level squash from both players.
In the veterans (+50) Markos Pasaliadis after having a 2/0 games lead finally won it by 3/2 games against Manolis Kokkinaras.
At the awards ceremony we had speeches from the winners and finalists. Zeta Tzamalouka thanked her husband and son for their support and also Patrick Le Feur ,the captain of Vail De Reil team in France for believing in her and having her in this team. Petros and Fabian together thanked the people for coming (actually it was the first time that the gallery was so full), the Federation ,the Athens club and wished this was the beginning of a new era in Greek squash with more children playing and more juniors squash camps helding.
See you next year !!!
